They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, which is why Pasadena resident, Sandra Cull decided to start a breakfast program for our elementary school in 1999. The program was titled “The Pasadena Elementary School Breakfast Club”. The club was under the Kids Eat Smart program, which gave the school financial support. Parents were encouraged to donate items to the club during Thanksgiving assemblies, and the government would match the value of the donation. The founding members of The Pasadena Elementary School Breakfast Club were Sandra Cull, Madonna Manuel and nutritionist, Michelle Snow. In addition to these three parent volunteers, there were also several teacher volunteers. Each day of the week a particular church would be responsible for providing three or four of their members to volunteer. With a wonderful group of volunteers, the club was able to flourish in the school. Children were invited to come out every morning, eat a nutritious breakfast and socialize with their friends. The Pasadena Elementary School Breakfast Club is still active today, and continues to provide a healthy start to the school day for our children.
